Description: 

The project aim to improve the management of forests within Solomon Islands by integrating biodiversity conservation, land degradation, sustainable forest management (SFM) and Climate Change issues into policy making at the national level and livelihood activities of local commnuities living in and around forests.

Objective: To assist the government of Solomon Island to implement integrated management of protected and productive forest landscapes for sustainable community development and multiple environment benefits.

Location: Central Bauro (Makira), Mt Popomanaseu (Guadalcanal), Kolombangara. Mt Maretabe (South Choiseul)

Time Frame: Jan 2015-2020

Total Cost/Budget: US$19 million  GEF main donor and cofunding by FAO

Status: Planning/Preliminary Stage

  1. Development of terrestial protected area.
  2. Increased local capacity to monitor, evaluate and manage biodiversity, land use change and sustainable forest management.
  3. Policy Makers and the general public are better informed about biodiversity conservation and Climate change.
  4. Sustainability of protected area management improved through sustainable financing and local income generating activities.
