8 August 2019, Apia, Samoa - According to Solomon Islands' Meteorological Service (SIMS) Director David Hiba, the SIMS faces infrastructure challenges and the ongoing risk of tsunamis hitting Solomon Islands.

A series of planned activities in commemoration of the annual World Environment Day/World Oceans Day/Coral Triangle Day Celebration this year in Solomon Islands. Some of the planned activities includes; radio talk-back show, media press statement, Barana Community Environment Expedition, Clean Up Program and the actual event amongst others which will be happening in Gizo/Western Province, Barana Community/Guadalcanal Province, Honiara City/Capital and in Buala/Isabel Province.

The EU-PacTVET project that is jointly implemented by USP and SPC. As you may know, the project is aiming to build a regional cohort of certified Trainers and Assessors of the Resilience certificate qualifications developed through the project (Project overview is attached).

The Environment and Conservation Division is currently undertaking review on the proposed draft Environment Act (Amendment) 1998. The department is inviting submissions on the proposed review of the draft act from any individuals or parties who have an interest and would like to contribute their comments/views in the process.

The Environment and Conservation Division is currently reviewing the Environment (Amendment) Act 1998 .The division is now inviting submissions on the proposed amendments to the Environment Act 1998 as part of this public consultation.
